How do we monitor our members?

March 28, 2007

We use a variety of methods to make sure our members aren’t sending spam. The first and most important is an honesty policy. Generally our members already meet or exceed our guidelines and this is just a way for them to be recognized for their good practice.

With that said, the definition of spam can be a bit of a gray area and what one person considers spam may be different to what the sender considers spam. For that reason we have a variety of methods to monitor our members.

1. Manual Monitoring

We check all our members during the application and assess their current privacy policy and practices. We may also sign up for the newsletter or membership if they have one and check the frequency and content of the emails.

2. Blacklists

Known spammers are often listed on one or more spam blacklists. We check members against the blacklists to see if they have been known to spam. We haven’t found any of our members on any blacklists yet!

3. Feedback From Customers

Visitors to our member’s websites let us know when they have a complaint against one of members and we can take the appropriate action.

How does it work?

December 5, 2006

Members get a unique piece of code that is inserted into your selected web pages to display the latest Seal. The Seal shows your visitors that you do not spam customers or sell their details.

Visitors can also click the logo to view your business contact details you choose to provide, and also send you an email directly via the contact form on your business listing. They can even view your business on a map! Click the Seal on this site to see our listing.

Can I use it on all my sites?

November 28, 2006

The seal displays your information unique for that domain, therefore the license is for use on ONE domain only. If you want to display the Seal on different domains you need to purchase additional licenses.

The easiest way to do it is from within the Member’s Area. On the Member’s Homepage you will see your previous listing. Below that there is a button titled ‘Add listing’. Click that create a new account.

Once completed, all your websites will be listed on you Member’s Homepage.

How do I cancel my account?

November 28, 2006

Please contact us to cancel your account by clicking here.

YOU CANNOT SIMPLY DELETE YOUR LISTING. We use Paypal to manage memberships so if you delete your listing then Paypal will continue to bill you.

Will you read my emails?

March 24, 2006

No. Our email system is similar to how you would send any other email. Although it is possible for us to see the message your customer sends you, we don’t. To read every email would take hundreds if not thousands of people.

Our job is to make sure that our system allows your customers through, but stops spammers contacting you.

You should remember that NO email system is safe unless you are using added security like a digital certificate, so you should never send important personal info by email.

If you still don’t want to use our system then you don’t have to. Simply leave the email field empty when you create your listing and customers will not be able to contact you.

How to put the Seal on your site

March 23, 2006

The Site Seal is displayed using a small script so that the Seal is updated automatically. If you have ever uploaded a Google Adsense code you will be familar with how to do this. If not, it is very simple:

  1. First you will need access to your webpage source code and an HTML editor like Dreamweaver, Frontpage or other editor. You can download a free editor from Trellian. You will also need to upload your site when you have finished editing. Filezilla is free FTP program to upload your site.
  2. When you are ready, login to your account
  3. Click on ‘view/ edit’ for the listing
  4. You should now see the full details of your listing. Near the top click on the ‘member logos’ button.
  5. Copy the FULL code of the logo you want to display
  6. Open your html editor where you can edit your website
  7. Navigate to the area where you want the Seal to display
  8. Now switch to the SOURCE VIEW of the editor. You should see the cursor in the place corressponding to the spot where you want the seal.
  9. Paste (ctrl + V) the full code you copied into the source code
  10. Preview the page to view the updated site (make sure you are connected to the internet). You should now see the seal on your page.
  11. Save your page.
  12. Upload your new page to the web.

Troubleshooting

  • Check that you have copied and pasted the complete code.
  • The code must be placed between the <body> tags.
  • Check that you are connected to the internet. The logo is hosted on our servers so you need to be connected for the logo to display.
  • Check that you have uploaded the correct file, to the correct location
  • It is possible that our servers are being updated. You could try again a bit later
  • If you are still having problems contact our support staff
